THE CENTRE
CENTRE FOR BIOMEDICAL TECHNOLOGY
The Centre for Biomedical Technology (CTB) is a research and technology center of the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid (UPM) that brings together researchers from different disciplines on biomedical technologies, in collaboration with other external institutions, in order to:
-
Address major challenges that scientists are facing today in Biomedicine and Health and whose success requires a stable and interdisciplinary collaboration, including both basic and translational research.
-
Facilitate the development of biomedical technology to be handed over to industry.
-
Create an environment conducive to the training of new researchers and professionals in this field.
THE LAB
EXPERIMENTAL NEUROLOGY LAB
The Experimental Neurology Lab is focused on understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of a variety of neurological disorders, searching for therapeutic and early diagnostic opportunities. Our research lines have a double aspect, basic and applied. Main research areas are the following:
-
Drug/cell based therapies to neuroprotect and repair the neurovascular microenvironment of the injured brain in cerebrovascular diseases and neurodegenerative disorders (i.e. Stroke, TBI, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson´s).
-
Biomarkers based on cell/molecular, imaging and electrophysiological cues with valuable early diagnosis and prognosis in cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative disorders.
-
Biofunctionalized nanoparticles for biomedical applications specially focused on neurodegenerative diseases.
-
Characterization of biomaterial - cell interactions to study neurodegenerative diseases.
-
Intercellular communication through functional and dysfunctional Connexins in cerebral ischemia and Alzheimer´s disease.
